Opening Ceremony

WEO Xinjiang Dr. Lee Shau Kee Eye Centre (translated in China as WEO Dr. Li Zhaoji Xinjiang Eye Centre) was established on 8 September 2005 by WEO in collaboration with the Lee Shau Kee Foundation in Hong Kong and People’s Hospital of Xinjiang Uygar Autonomous Region.

People’s Hospital of Xinjiang Uygar Autonomous Region was established in1934. It has a wide range of health care activities which include treatment, education, research and prevention. It was also honored and considered as a role model and pioneer in hospital development in Urumqi.

People’s Hospital of Xinjiang Uygar Autonomous Region Ophthalmology Department cooperated with Beijing Tongren Hospital to set up an eye center. Since then, professors from Tongren Hospital went to Xinjiang as visiting professors fro time to time. Because of the good relationship and close liaison between these two hospitals, the People’s Hospital of Xinjiang Uygar Autonomous Region has made tremendous progress on the treatment of ocular fundus disorder.

Cooperation between People’s Hospital of Xinjiang Uygar Autonomous Region and WEO is marvelous news for all ethnic groups in Xinjiang. With sterling contributions from WEO Xinjiang Dr. Lee Shau Kee Eye Centre, ophthalmic care in the province and neighboring regions will be greatly enhanced.
